Momagama and TheMommaFiles

I keep a list of “to read” books. It keeps getting longer. My time to read them gets shorter. If I get through one adult book this summer, it will be an accomplishment. I am sure this sentiment rings true with other parents but rest assured, I have a solution. Change your reading list.

TheMommaFiles & Momagama

It’s finally happening …  you can see it everywhere. The lightweight jackets, the sock less outfits, the smiles on everyone’s faces. Winter weather is fading into the distance as some much needed Spring weather is taking its place.

Belleville Times Article – Lots of Candles, Plenty of Cake

I woke up with a pit in my stomach, wishing the day ended before it even began. I kept telling myself it was only a number; it didn’t dictate my life, my health, my accomplishments (or lack thereof). But, I could not shake the feeling that something was not right. Happy 35th birthday to me.

BellevilleTimes article – The Mommy Book

Parenting is all about decision making; is it OK if Jack skips a bath, will it make me a bad mom if the TV goes on because I need to get dinner ready and tomorrow’s lunch packed, how much dinner constitutes “enough” for dessert. Most of the time it is just me and my husband making these decisions but I still need to rationalize them as though there is a panel of judges watching.

Belleville Times Article – Defending Jacob

Having a baby is the only relationship where you commit yourself before getting to know the other party involved. No grace period, no time to decide whether we liked each other or not, no decision to play or pass go; for better or worse, you are immediately connected for life. So what happens when a parent questions passing go?

Belleville Times – Flat Stanley

Before having a child, traveling meant carrying on, casually strolling the airport for magazines, sleeping during a flight. After having a child, traveling means checking five bags, running through the airport after a toddler, and wishing the flight to be over as soon as possible. I am going to start traveling alone, like Stanley.

Stand up for Girls

Stand Up for Girls with LitWorld and Take Action for Every Girl’s Right to a Quality Education on 10.11.12, the International Day of the Girl.

523 million girls and women worldwide cannot read or write. Let us stand together to champion the right of all girls to be Fierce, Fearless and Free.

LitWorld, an organization working towards achieving global literacy, has launched the Stand Up for Girls campaign to advocate for every girl’s right to a quality education. Our entire civilization is at stake when girls’ lives are fragile because they are prevented from accessing the right to read and write. All girls must be able to vote with their names, read their medicine bottles, farm their land, ride a subway and go to college. Stand Up for Girls speaks to these issues and gives us all a chance, young and old, to show our daughters and the sisters of our hearts that we have not forgotten, that we want the world to be safe, fair and full of hope for all of them.

Visit litworld.org and pledge your commitment to take action and create positive change for women and girls worldwide, and to learn how to participate in LitWorld’s Photo Contest, plan your own Stand Up for Girls Event, become a Stand Up for Girls Champion, and more.

Tell 10 people you know about Stand Up for Girls to help spread the world as far as possible. Ask your 10 to Tell 10 more people and together, let’s shout from the rooftops that every girl has the right to be fierce, fearless and free.
